The Using ICT in support of language teaching and learning (ICT-REV)
In-service training for teachers on 5.-6.11.2025 in Jyväskylä
The Using ICT in support of language teaching and learning (ICT-REV) initiative provides training in the application of pedagogical principles in teaching languages with technology. It promotes the effective use of the ECML inventory of ICT tools and open educational resources in support of quality language teaching and learning. The activity initiates local and regional clusters of multipliers promoting the use of ICT tools and open educational resources.
The ICT-REV workshops will enable participants to successfully develop their confidence and competences in integrating ICT in language teaching in a pedagogically sound way. Through careful scaffolding of pre-workshop tasks, two days of intensive on-site workshop sessions and follow-up cascading activities, our model ensures sustainable continuous professional development.
A vast range of ICT tools that facilitate different aspects of language teaching and learning have been developed in recent years, many of them with European funding. However, the ongoing rapid developments in ICT pose a challenge to school-based educational traditions. Most contemporary language educators demonstrated their willingness to take up this challenge during the pandemic, applying available tools and resources for the benefit of their learners as a means to achieve educational success. The key to successful integration of ICT is for language educators to be aware of the available technologies and, more importantly, to reflect critically on their usage. In this way, they will be able to consider the most appropriate tools and resources for their context and match these to their learners’ needs. Visibility, peer reviews, modelling, recommendations and advocacy all contribute to promoting an adequate and efficient use of tools and ultimately to achieving impact.
The 2019 European Council recommendation on a comprehensive approach to the teaching and learning of languages states that “digital and online tools for language learning have proven efficient for different categories of learners” and refers directly to how an inventory of open educational resources (as developed by the ICT-REV initiative) can support teaching practice. The initiative identifies and reviews high quality ICT products which support language learning and teaching and offers training to multipliers such as teacher educators.
The workshops will also enable you to support reform processes addressed in the Recommendation CM/Rec(2022)1 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the importance of plurilingual and intercultural education for democratic culture.
The ICT-REV initiative would like to collaborate with you in order to understand the specific needs of your country/context. Support materials will be developed and adapted to meet the needs of specific contexts by drawing on key ECML and European Commission tools and resources. Customisation of the workshops will be discussed during preparation meetings of the ICT-REV team and local coordinators. The Request Specification form is the first step in this collaboration.
The workshop is offered in English. To whome the in-service training is for and how to register?

Our ICT-REV workshops will enable participants to successfully develop their confidence and competences in integrating ICT in language teaching in a pedagogically sound way. Through careful scaffolding of pre-workshop tasks, two days of intensive on-site workshop sessions and follow-up cascading activities, our model ensures sustainable continuous professional development.

This workshop provides ample opportunity for participants to consider the most appropriate tools and resources for their context and match these to their learners’ needs. Participants will be required to fill in an online questionnaire prior to the online workshop, fulfil pre-workshop tasks involving the use of a designated Moodle online space, and to participate actively in the workshop itself, completing a variety of different activities in small groups or on their own. They will also be expected to engage in post-workshop tasks, sharing with their colleagues the resources and the training activities and skills they have developed during the workshop.
Depending on workshop specifications and on individual performance, the total workload ranges from 25 to 35 hours per participant.
