First day at school

June 12th

Today was my first day at school. I must admit that when I was having my quick breakfast -cereals with yoghurt- I did feel sort of nervous. But then I was running late, had to learn how to open and how to lock the door to Eva's and then quickly get to the school. And I forgot all about being nervous.

All the new students were to be at the school at eight o'clock and we were. None of the personnel was. There had been some misunderstanding among the teachers so we waited for about half an hour before any of them came. They were all very sorry. To begin the school day we took a little multiple-choice test so that the teachers could decide into which groups to put us. Each of us was also interviewed a little.

I ended up in a group of nine students; three from China, three from Japan, one from Korea, one from Sweden and, of course, me. Most of the group have obviously already been here for quite a while. The Swede and I were the only new students so we got to tell a little about ourselves to the others. We worked on different kinds of exercises in the book we got from the school. The theme of the day was renting a house versus buying one. We learned some new colloquial words and expressions, talked a little and soon noticed that it was time to have a twenty-minute break.

After the break we got another teacher, we changed from Carmen to Veronica. During her class we all had to give a long presentation about ourselves and she asked us a lot of questions. We had a lot of fun when trying to pronounce each other's names. I tried to memorize the names Ria, Caro, Y, Taiga, Håkan, Haomin, Xevera and Jing 🤔☺. During the rest of the class we went on talking about the pros and cons of buying and renting a house.

We got homework! Veronica told us to write an essay on the housing situation in our respective countries using a text in the book as a model and statistics on the net. And this, of course, for the next lesson. Did I really think I would have a free afternoon??

I had a quick salad for lunch and went back to Eva's to start working on my homework and this blog.

At around 6 p.m. Eva shooed me out to do some sightseeing before dinner. I went to see a huge shopping center which was build into an old bull fighting arena. Interesting. You could take escalators all the way up to get a wonderful view over the city. After the walk I had a lovely dinner (salad and a traditional dish with chicken and potatoes) with Eva.

It's 22.22 now and after studying just a little bit more I'll be ready for bed.
