Forest Day

Forest Day September 2019

During a forest day, the Finnish 8th graders got to know sustainable forestry. They also made a field trip into a forest, where they learned team work skills when getting to know biodiversity of Finnish forests and preparing their lunch on fire.

"What did we do on the forest trip?

The day started with us getting on the bus from the school. First we went to the forest where this woodcutting machine worked. It was very interesting to see how the machine worked and how the people we’re interested in cutting wood. There was two woodcutters from the finnish forest group called “Metsä group”. Some of our students got the chance to visit the machines control room.

After the wood cutting place, we went to a forest route in Kisakallio’s sport centre. There we had lunch and we had a little campfire where we grilled some sausages. We had a paper that had questions about the biodiversity of the forest. We had to take pictures of the plants too. After the forest route we went back to school by bus. Couple of days after the forest day we did report about the tasks in the paper.
