Lecture 4 Career anchor theory and practice

Lecture 4 Career anchor theory and practice

This lecture is about career anchors. This framework was developed by Edgar Schein. It is widely used in career counseling and leadership development. Career anchors define what the individual expects of a career as well as the type of tasks that motivates her/him. The anchor influences the decisions a person makes about her/his career path.

At first you will hear professor Lämsä’s discussion about the importance of career anchors, and then you will have the possibility to assess your own career anchors.

At the point 8 minutes 20 sec pause the video and process your own career anchors. In the internet there are several options to make the self-assessment. Some of them are commercial and you need to purchase the rights to do it. Below, are however two, which are free to use. The first one is a shorter one, much like the one used in the class. This time follow the guidelines on the material given on the internet sites, not given in class.

Make notes on your reflective report if needed. After that, follow the lecture to the end.
