Lecture 4 A context of competition and crisis

Lecture 4 A context of competition and crisis

Just like for business organizations, universities face more and more competition. Even if they are not private, but state owned and operated, on the global arena universities are competing. In this lecture we get to know in detail the context of competition and crises among universities.

During the lecture we hear about the different pressures universities face in this global competition. As one example, the lecturer points out two important criteria the students have for universities: quality and relevance as competitive elements. We also learn that universities and their program face more and more the importance of marketing and the power of communication.

At the end of the lecture, professor Tjeldvoll talks about universities in crises and also gives examples how some universities came out the crises.
