Holst: Planeetat – Jupiter
The British composer Gustav Holst is famous for his orchestral suite the Planets (1914–1916). The most popular piece of the planets by far is the Jupiter. At the time when Holst was composing the parts of the suite, the Pluto hadn't yet been discovered as a planet. Holst's composition was found missing for almost a hundred years, but now that Pluto isn't considered as a planet anymore the suite is complete again.
Jupiterin alku on veikeä, hiukan futuristinen ja reipas. Vajaan neljän minuutin kohdalta alkaa kuitenkin hymnimäinen vakaa, romanttinen ja kaunis "I Vow to Thee, My Country"-osa, jota esitetään myös itsenäisenä osana teoksesta.
The beginning of Jupiter is whimsy, a little bit futuristic and upbeat. Around four minutes comes a peaceful romantic hymn 'I Vow to Thee, My Country', which is perfomed also as an independent song in the UK.
