- Valitse mielestäsi mielenkiintoinen kappale. Se voi olla mitä tahansa tyylilajia eikä sen tarvitse olla lempibiisisi.
Pick an interesting song. It can be of any genre. It doesn't have to be your favourite song but it helps if it's already familiar to you. 

- Esittele artisti lyhyesti ja kerro, miten valitsemasi kappale sijoittuu artistin uralle. Onko se tyypillinen esimerkki tuotannosta vai jotenkin linjasta poikkeava? 
Introduce the performer (artist or a band) shortly and describe where does the song stand in the career of the performer. Is the song a typical example of the artist's catalogue or an exception?

- Tee kappaleesta rakenneanalyysi. (Avuksi musiikin elementeistä Muoto-sivu.) 
Analyse the parts of the song, so that you refer i.e. the chorus when you are explaining the ambiance or naming the instruments. 

- Kerro, millainen tunnelma kappaleessa on, miten se kehittyy, ja mitkä soittimet vaikuttavat kappaleen tunnelmaan. Apua saat esim. kuunteluharjoitus-sivulta tai sointiväri-sivun linkeistä. 
Explain the mood of the song, how it begins and then develops as the song goes on. Which instruments affect to the ambiance and how? 

- Voit analysoida myös laulajan ääntä. 
You can also analyse the singer's voice or singing technique, if you want. 

- Kerro lopuksi oma mielipiteesi kappaleesta perustellen. 
Finally, reveal your own opinion of the song. Try to explain, what it is in the song that made you choose it. 

Arvioinnissa otan huomioon kappaleen haastavuuden ja analyysin perusteellisuuden: Yksinkertaisen kappaleen analyysi voi olla perusteellinenkin, mutta helppouden vuoksi arvosana ei voi nousta korkeaksi. Monimutkaisemmat kappaleet taas voivat jäädä esimerkiksi laulajan äänen suhteen vähemmälle huomiolle, ja silti analyysi voi olla kiitettävä, jos rakennetta ja soitinten vaikutusta tunnelmaan on analysoitu huolellisesti. 
The simplicity or the complexity of the song is part of the grading: if the song you pick is very simple, even with a thorough analysis it might be impossible to get the best grades.
