KA229 "Healthy lifestyle - power from nature" 2020-2022 (Finland, Italy, Latvia)

Starting the new Erasmus+ KA229-project

After the time consuming process of writing the application in 2019-2020, we were happy to receive funding for our Healthy lifestyle - power from nature -project in the summer 2020 together with our partners in Latvia and Sicily. This is the first time our school is taking part in an Erasmus+ KA229 project. Due to the covid -19 pandemic, we decided to postpone the start of the project as late as possible which was December 2020. So now we have finally been able to start to work with our topics.

Riistavesi comprehensive school is the coordinator school and the partner schools are Liceo Scientifico Statale E. Fermi in Paterno, Sicily and Jelgavas Spidolas Valsts gimnazija in Jelgava, Latvia. Our partner schools are far more experienced in Erasmus+ -projects than we are and they were eager to join the project with the Finnish coordinator.

Our aim is to stimulate pupils to reconnect with nature and help them improve their
knowledge of healthier eating habits and lifestyles. Students, families and teachers will have the possibility to learn and appreciate different examples of healthy living. In addition by interacting with a variety of European cultures, we promote in pupils, teachers and their families European citizenship and tolerance.

In our school we were able to offer an optional course for the eight graders during 2020-2021 school year to study the topics of the project. The course "Virtaa luonnosta" ("Energy/Power from nature") started in the autumn 2020 with hiking and cooking, e.g. picking berries and creating healthy snacks, and continued in January 2021 with winter sports such as downhill skiing, snowshoeing etc.
