Lecture 2 What are important values in ethical leadership?

In this lecture professor Lämsä begins with explaining a model presented by researcher Payne. This framework deals with three strategies of ethical leadership: a) creation of a sound ethical value basis, b) rule-based strategy, and c) integrity-based strategy. In the lecture she explains the first approaches in detail. Next, she also clarifies the different definitions and constructs we need when we talk about values. She talks about values, value-systems, virtues and ethical values.

In the lecture professor Lämsä also stresses the ethical behavior and action of any educational leader. In this way values become virtues – behavior in real life. She emphasizes that ethics is not only thinking, it is also acting! Then, professor Lämsä also challenges the students to think about what are the most important values to educational leaders. At this point you may also make your own personal notes about it and then listen to the students’ comments and professor Lämsä’s summation of them.
