This session takes us to the very core of special education with definitions, policies, and practices. We will learn the differences between Special Education Needs and Special Needs Education, and we have the opportunity to follow the questions of the students and the answers given by the lecturer to many practical issues of special education and inclusion. Very important will be the discussion of practices of inclusion in lectures 3, 4 and 5. Our lecturer in sessions 5 and 6 will be Matti Kuorelahti, PhD, with a long history both as special education teacher and researcher.

Session 5 consists of 5 lectures and PowerPoint slides related to it. There will be no readings no assignments in this session, but keep in mind in this session, as well as in the sessions to come, the assignment for this course. It is therefore advised, that while listening the lectures, make your own notes about the educational solutions in Finland.
