Lokakuussa koulumme 8 oppilasta ja 4 opettajaa matkasivat Erasmus+ -matkalle eteläiseen Espanjaan, Elchen kaupunkiin. Oppilaat majoittuivat paikallisiin perheisiin, joihin he olivat ennen reissua tutustuneet Whatsappin ja videopuheluiden kautta.  

Joka aamu aloitimme yhteisellä tapaamisella El Palmeran koululla ja oppilaat kertoivat edellisen päivän tunnelmista ja tapahtumista. Päivät kuluivat luokissa ja retkillä isäntäperheiden lasten ja heidän luokkiensa kanssa. Koulu oli upealla paikalla Elchen palmupuistojen alueella. Elchen palmulehto on yksi Unescon maailman perintökohteista. 

Saimme tutustua monipuolisesti Elchen ja Valencian historiaan ja ympäristöön. Viimeisenä päivänä pääsimme myös retkelle Välimeren rantaan, Alicanteen ja siellä opiskelimme päivän Santa Barbaran linnassa. Oppilaiden englannin kieli kehittyi huimasti, he oppivat jonkin verran espanjaa ja kaiken lisäksi heille jäi hienoja muistoja ystävällisestä ja aurinkoisesta Elchestä ja paljon uusia ystäviä. 

 

In October 8 students and 4 teachers from our school traveled on an Erasmus+ trip to city of Elche in southern Spain. The students stayed with local host families, whom they had already met through WhatsApp and video calls before the trip. 

Each morning began with a joint meeting at El Palmeral School, where the students shared their thoughts and experiences from the previous day. The days were spent in classes and on excursions with the host families’ children and their classmates. The school was located in a beautiful area surrounded by Elche’s palm groves, which is one of the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. 

We had the chance to explore Elche and Valencia’s history and surroundings in many ways. On the last day, we also went on a trip to the Mediterranean coast, to Alicante, where we spent the day studying at the Santa Barbara Castle. The students’ English skills improved significantly, and they also learned some Spanish. In addition to that, they returned home with great memories of the friendly and sunny city of Elche and many new friends.
