Lecture 2 Individual and organizational values
Lecture 2 Individual and organizational values
Lecture 2 begins with relating values to successful organizations. Also, the importance of the alignment of values is discussed. This lecture also presents an important framework developed by Mary Jo Hatch (1993) focusing on the dynamics of culture and values. The model of layers in human psychology, then, gives us a more detailed understanding of the connection of values with our daily behaviour. At the end of the class, an important relation between individual and organizational values is presented. This discussion will continue in the last lecture of this session.
Before any lecture either open or save to your computer the assigned PowerPoint presentation.
Assignment before the lecture: Define the values in your organization or in an organization you know well. If possible, print the values statement and have it at hand when you listen to the lectures.
Listen to the lecture, and afterwards do the assignment given below.
Write your learning experiences into your personal Reflective report
Assignment after the lecture: Write down
- the openly stated values in your organization, and
- write down the values that guide action in real life in your organization. If the discrepancy of the two previous is significant, make your own reflection of the situation, and make a plan to address the issue in action (no formal assignment linked to this).
