Lecture 4 Discussing Tikkakoski school and its course framework
At the beginning of the campus course the students visit Tikkakoski School Campus which includes an elementary school and a lower and upper secondary school. The students go to the lessons and discuss with principals, teacher and students. The purpose of the visit is to become familiar with the Finnish context. Observations made during the visit are also used as data for analyzing pedagogic leadership in the Finnish education system.
After the school visit, the framework of learning in the Finnish education system is being dealt with. The learning process and leading the learning process as a teacher are presented with the help of a practical example. Special emphasis is given to student assessment as part of the learning process. Due to differences between various countries the Finnish framework for learning is discussed to make it more comprehendible for the students. Students also comment on the Finnish system by comparing it with the learning systems of their own countries.
