Lecture 1 Chapter 8 Developing teacher leaders
Lecture 1 Chapter 8 Developing teacher leaders
This lecture disscusses the Chapter 8 of Murphy's book: how to develop teacher leaders. It requires system thinking, which means that promoting teacher leadership should not stay at the superfacial level but go into the organisational structure. Secondly, teacher leadership should be included in teacher training. Principal Risku takes his school as an example, explaining how is the teacher leadership carried out in practice. This lecture discusses how to develop teacher leaders according to Murphy (2005) chapter 8. The development seems to start with removing the obstacles for teacher leadership. Systemic thinking and valuing professional development turns out to be essential. An attempt is made to find practical issues by discussing the observations made during the school visits. During the discussion shared leadership emerges as an essential topic.
