Nation assignment

Nations are different in many ways. They have different histories. Some have been independent for thousands of years, whereas others have gained their independence only recently.

Many Asian nations have endured civil wars, where different groups have fought for the control of the nation. This has been the case recently in nations such as Syria and Afganistan. On the other hand, some Asian nations have had relatively peaceful histories despite accommodating different ethnic and religious groups.

Nations have different types of government. The most common types of goverment are republic, monarchy and empire. In democratic nations, the people have a say in political decision-making, and can have their voices heard without fear of persecution or censorship.

Asia is full of different religions. The most common religions in Asia today include Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. In many Asian nations, religion has a central role in the daily lives of regular people.

Agriculture is still an important livelihood in many Asian nations. Some Asian nations, such as China, Japan and South Korea, have also become important industrial powers.

In this assignment, you will create a presentation focusing on one Asian nation.

Goals:
a) Learning to search for reliable and accurate information online.
b) Learning to create a presentation that presents information in an accurate and concise manner in your own words.

Notes:
The presentation must be done in your own voice, which means that you cannot copy and paste text from other sources to make your presentation. Instead, you should make notes (such as lists or mind maps) about the information you plan to use. You can then use your notes as the basis of your presentation.

Contents:
Your presentation should describe the basic features of your chosen nation. The teacher will choose the format of the presentation (essay, oral presentation, poster, video, or Peda.net site). You should focus on presenting the following information:
a) Location: neighboring countries, oceans, mountain ranges.
b) Surface area and geographical features (mountains, rivers, lakes, largest cities, etc.).
c) Climate.
d) Flora and fauna.
e) Population: size, ethnic groups (religions, tribes, etc.).
f) The most important events in the nation's history.
g) Economy and livelihoods (agriculture, tourism, industry, etc.).
h) Life in the current day (find recent news articles to find out what life is like in your country today).
i) Use maps to present basic information. Use the map templates available here.

Nations: There are approximately 50 nations in Asia in total (see the complete list in Wikipedia).
As reliable information on all Asian nations is not available on the internet, you should choose one of the following:
a) Japan
b) China
c) Philippines
d) Indonesia
e) Thailand
f) India
g) Pakistan
h) Israel
i) Saudi Arabia
j) Kuwait
k) Turkey
