Lecture 2 Classical organization theory

Lecture 2 Classical organization theory

In Lecture 2, you will learn the classical organization theory, which emphasizes the importance of structure. The structural frame focuses on norms and rationality. Behind this paradigm is actually the Newtonian mechanics. From the structural perspective, the management focuses on routines, facts and tasks, instead of people and feelings. Pay special attention in the last part of the lecture, where professor Alava asks students to do an exercise about sabotaging one organization by changing its structure. From this exercise, you will learn the importance of the structure to the whole organizational effectiveness.
