Lecture 3 Organization and its environment

Lecture 3 discusses the interplay between organisation and environment. Researchers use different metaphors and frameworks to explain the relationship between them. First Morgan describes the organisations as machine, organism, culture, brain, and psychic prison. Bolman and Deal use 4 frames to observe the organisation from structural, human resource, political and symbolic perspectives. Astley and Van de Ven use a two-by-two framework to locate different organisation theories from macro-micro level axis and deterministic-voluntaristic axis.
