Session 2 Importance of Individual Cognitive Styles

Session 2 consists of 9 lectures. This session begins with utilizing professor Alava's research of cognitive styles, and continues later to the concept of Strategic Learning Cycle. At first, you will learn about the various different theories and models in attempting to classify thinking and learning. Then, main emphasis is the framework based of professor Alava’s studies. In the session, you will in detail learn the characteristics of four different cognitive styles in the framework.

Later, in lecture five, the students will present their own profiles obtained from the special online survey. Cognitive styles can be applied in many fields, especially in team building, development, teaching and learning. Pay attention to the cognitive styles and their match to different occupations. Study also the risks and benefits of heterogeneous vs. homogeneous groups. In the last two lectures, you will study the Strategic Learning Cycle and new interpretation of Jungian approach. Please note this session is somewhat demanding, so, if needed, repeat the lectures to get better understanding of the theories.

Please note, that during this session you will process your own cognitive styles using a special internet-based material. You will be sent identification password to do that. If you have not at this point received them, please contact IEL support people.
