Lecture 1 New thinking on adaptation
Lecture 1 New thinking on adaptation
This lecture starts with a short summary about the learning path of the course. Lecturer Kokkonen elaborates the course structure to the students. In a multicultural environment, the traditional thinking of adaptation no longer suits the reality. Instead, we need to put on new lenses to see the individuals in a heterogeneous society. Then we shift the focus from relationship to self identity. Identity can be observed through 2 angles: social identity and personal identity. Through a small exercise, students search their bags and find out the artifacts which represent their identities.

Assignment before the lecture: Take a look at yourself in the mirror. Think yourself what do you want to communicate with the artifacts (dressing, hairstyle, accessories, makeup, etc.) about yourself to the others? What kind of image you are trying to create / maintain?
