Meidän koulu Köpe!
Könönpellon koulua pidetään esimerkillisenä yhteisönä, jossa oppilaat ja henkilökunta viihtyvät hyvän ilmapiirin, yhteisöllisyyden ja osallistavan toimintatavan siivittämänä. Henkilökunnan keskuudessa vallitseva "hyvä meininki" heijastuu kohtaamisiin lasten kanssa, joka puolestaan luo lisää hyvää ympärilleen. Siksipä Opetusalan Ammattijärjestö OAJ valitsi vuonna 2021 meidän koulun vuoden kouluksi.

The Finnish Trade Union of Education, OAJ, awarded Könönpelto school as the school of the year 2021 in Finland. Könönpellon school is located in a city called Varkaus, 317 kilometers north from Helsinki, the capital city of Finland. There are around 200 pupils in our primary school. We have pre-school and grades 1-6 (general education). In almost half the classes teaching is partly given in English. The school implements ProKoulu model, a model of school-wide positive behaviour interventions and support, an anti-bullying programme called KiVa and Liikkuva koulu programme in which we promote physical activity in our school.

Erasmus+ Mobility Brought Croatian Pupils to Visit Könönpellon koulu
From 7th to 11th September 2026 Könönpellon koulu hosted five primary school pupils and two accompanying adults from Osijek, eastern Croatia. From Monday to Friday the Croatian pupils studied according to the Finnish curriculum with our Finnish students. Class 6B from Könönpelto served as the host class for the visiting pupils. Before meeting each other the pupils had introduced themselves on Padlet Wall, a digital bulletin board. Our visitors studied Finnish, maths, English, technology, music and science with our pupils. They were learning outside, picking lingonberries in Varkausmäki and afterwards baking lingonberry pie. The visiting adults were introduced the ProKoulu operational model (positively learning in a group). They were also introduced how Kasvatusohjaaja works in our school, supporting pupils in problematic situations concerning school, home and friendship.
Our city, Varkaus, became very familiar to our Croatian visitors. We arranged visits for them to Ämmäkoski rapids, Torni Terrace Cafe, children’s traffic park and the hut, ”kota”, at Puurtila Parish Centre. On their own, they visited the Mechanical Music Museum, the Taipale Canal, the Konsti museum, the Gaming Café Kurko, the swimming hall Ilonpisara and they even made a trip to the Moomin Ice Cave in Leppävirta.
