Interview of a child worker

Instructions for your iMovie/Child labour - interview (kopio)

1) After reading the texts and watching the videos, work with a partner and choose one job that a child in the 19th century could have had.
2) Imagine that you get to step into a time machine and go and meet that child.
3) Decide which one of you acts as the child and which one is the time-travelling interviewer from the present day
4) Prepare a thorough set of questions that you want to ask the child. (at least 10 questions!)

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU SHOW YOUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT CHILDREN'S WORKING CONDITIONS AND LIFE IN THE 19TH CENTURY IN THIS INTERVIEW. TRY TO INCLUDE AS MANY FACTS AS POSSIBLE FROM EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE READ/SEEN ABOUT THIS TOPIC!  TRY TO MAKE IT SOUND AS CONVINCING/AUTHENTIC AS POSSIBLE! = Develop your acting skills: What would a child working in such conditions look like and sound like?

Ask questions about...
- the child's age
- home (living conditions) and family
- the job they do: what kind of chores; what kind of conditions, dangers, pay, food, working hours etc.
- reasons for working
- their health
- future expectations, hopes and dreams

5) Invent the child's answers together - Give thorough answers that reflect your knowledge and understanding of what life really was like for some children in those days!

In English and history lessons:

6) Practise the interview well beforehand
7) Find a background picture/pictures for the interview (a factory setting /a coal mine.. etc)
8) Shoot the interview in front of a green screen (pay attention to suitable clothing and maybe other accessories (+ makeup?) as well - no brand names on your hoodies!)
8) Edit the interview into an iMovie combining the green screen shot with the background picture
