Summary

From the bottom to the surface is a mobility project between three secondary schools in Seduva Gymnasium in Lithuania, Narva Language Lyceum in Estonia and Lappajärvi Upper Secondary School in Finland. Estonia, Finland and Lithuania border the sea and have got many lakes, rivers and other water resources. Therefore, the concept of water is very actual in all three countries and it is essential to analyse this topic theoretically and practically taking into account historical, geographical, economical (providing livelihood, hydro power) and recreational perspectives by integrating the theme into different school subjects.

We will also discuss the sources of water for household and food making (wells, springs, water supply stations), the costs of running water, the ways how water is saved (sustainable water management), how much it is polluted and what is done to solve this problem. Another aspect is the use of water in medicine, in sports and health care centers (swimming pools, saunas, bathhouses) and in the trade industry (how various kinds of water are bottled and sold in shopping centers). In addition, the water theme is dealt with in literature, music and art. There will be field trips and talks with the people working in these spheres. The students will do surveys, compare the results with the partner schools and write reports the results of which will be disseminated on the school webpages and in school posters.

The project will raise the awareness of the overall significance of water in localities and in society at large while experimenting on new pedagogical methods. All in all, about 100 students and 10 teachers from every school will participate in the project episodically
