Osa luokkalaisistamme kävi läheisellä vanhustentalolla haastattelemassa keski-iältään 80-vuotiaita ihmisiä ajasta, jolloin he olivat nuoria. Vanhukset olivat hyvin ilahtuneita nuorten kanssa keskustelusta ja toivoivat uusia tapaamisia jatkossakin.

"Miten maailma on muuttunut siitä, kun olitte nuoria?"

Heidän mielestään maailma on nykyään väkivaltaisempi ja luonnonilmiöt ovat vakavampia. He kertoivat ajasta, jolloin ruokaa ostettiin ostokorteilla, eikä niinkään rahalla. Nykyään elämä on yksinäisempää, kuin heidän nuoruudessaan, sillä heidän ystävänsä asuivat silloin lähempänä heitä.

"Mikä oli lempiurheilulajinne?"

He kertoivat meille, että urheilu oli hyvin tärkeä asia heidän nuoruudessaan. He pitivät yleisurheilusta, kuten juoksusta ja korkeushypystä. Heidän suosikkeihinsa kuuluivat myös suomalainen pesäpallo ja jääkiekko.

"Oliko teillä lemmikkejä kun olitte lapsia?"

Yksi heistä kertoi meille koirastaan, joka oli hyvin aktiivinen ja joka halusi koko ajan olla ulkona. Yksi rouva kertoi kaneistaan, jotka olivat hyvin helppohoitoisia. Ne viettivät kesät ulkona. Monilla vanhuksilla oli maatilalla paljon eläimiä, kuten lehmiä ja sikoja.

"Mikä oli teidän lempiruokanne?"

He pitivät erilaisista keitoista, kuten lohi- ja lihakeitoista. He pitivät myös kotitekoisesta leivästä, jonka kanssa joivat raikasta maitoa.

"Millaisia töitä te teitte?"

Yksi mies kertoi meille hänen urheilutoimittajan urastaan. Hän kirjoitti monia urheilutilastoja käsin. Hän työskenteli myös postinjakajana. Silloin monet nuoret työskentelivät maatiloilla, joista muutama oli myös meidän haastateltavana.

"Miten liikuitte paikasta toiseen?"

He kertoivat meille, että yleensä he kävelivät tai hiihtivät. Joskus he myös liikkuivat hevosella tai linja-autolla. Jos he matkustivat pidemmän matkan, he kulkivat junalla.

Few people of our class went to nursing home and interviewed some elderly people. We asked them some questions of their childhood.

"How has the world changed since you were child?"

They thought that world is more violent nowadays and the natural phenomens are more dangerous. They also told us that back then there was a time, when they didn't buy food with money but instead that they had cards they could buy everything with. They said that they weren't as lonely as they are now, because their friends lived close them and they played more games outside.

"What was your favorite sports?"

They told us, that sport was a very important thing in their childhood. They liked many athletics for example running and high jumping. They also liked Finnish baseball and icehockey a lot.

"Did you have any pets when you were kids?"

One of them told us about his dog. The dog was really active and he had to take it out all the time. One lady told us about her rabbits. They were easy to take care of and they lived outside in summer. Many of them also had farm animals for example cows and pigs.

"What was your favorite food?

They liked different soups, for example salmon soup and meat soup. They also liked home-made bread. They liked to drink fresh milk.

"What kind of jobs did you do?"

One man told us that he was sportscaster and he did many different statistics by hand. He had also worked as a postman. Back then many youngsters worked at farms so did few of them people we interviewed.

"How did you move from place to place?"

They told us that they mostly walked and skied. Sometimes they also went by horses and by bus. If they had a long way to go, they went by train.
