Saturday 28.10.: Rome (part 2) and the journey back home

We ate breakfast about half past seven. Then we went to the train station from where we left for Rome.

Anu in the train.

We reached Rome and our first stop was Santa Maria Maggiore (Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore).

Our journey continued to Colosseum (Colosseo).

Group selfie at Colosseum.

Our next stop was Roman Forum (Forum Romanum). And after that we went to the famous shopping street Via de Corso.

Our flight departed about 19.00 and it was time to go back home.

Friday 27.10.: Workshop outcomes and our farewell dinner

Today we went to school (Baccelli School) for the last time in Italy.

We presented our projects which we had made during the week. The projects were about entrepreneurship and we had to invent our own business. We showed our posters and videos which we had made related to our business.

Then we heard Chiara Frontini's presentation about being an entrepreneur.
After that we walked to another school (Stendhal Institute) where we had lunch.

After lunch we had some freetime. Then we started to pack and some of us went to the market.

In the evening all of us went to a pizzeria called Mastro Titta - Oltremare and we spent our last evening together there.

We got different pizzas and small snacks before and after pizza.

Thursday 26.10.: All the roads lead to Rome (part 1)

On Thursday we had to wake up so early. We headed to Rome (Roma) at seven o'clock in the morning. The trip was fun even though some people hadn't gotten enough sleep.

When we drove closer to the center of Rome, we started to see more and more beautiful, old and ancient buildings and castles.

We also had a little tour in the Bank of Italy Palazzo Koch. We were divided into two groups and went to see some collections of ancient coins and old bank notes.

Then we also saw some old beautiful statues (for example the Capitoline Wolf (Lupa Capitolina) which is a sculpture of the mythical she-wolf feeding the twins, Romulus and Remus).

And we listened some interesting explanations and stories related to the statues, buildings and the architecture. It was really interesting and it helped us a lot that the guide spoke pretty good and clear English.

And then... the moment and the place we all had been waiting for... We got to see Colosseum (Colosseo)!!!

Even though we saw it only from the outside, it was pretty cool to see something so old and ancient still standing here after hundreds of years. Donato [an Italian teacher] made a flag out of a selfie stick and a scarf so that we wouldn't lost him in the crowd.

Next place was this really beautiful, big, white house with several curly carvings: the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi).

We had about a half an hour to walk around and look around and to buy souvenirs. We saw many people painting cool paintings with spray paint.

Then we decided to meet next to a big white statue after one hour. After that we had time to have something to eat or to do whatever we wanted.

The next stop was the Pantheon (Pántheion), the temple of many iconic people.

It was really interesting to see so much old art.

In front of the Pantheon, outside of it, there was an old Egyptian obelisk with hieroglyphs on it, and it was also really pretty.

Then the last place we visited was a big white fountain, Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi) that had big statues and sculptures on it.

And after walking our feet to death we got to the bus and headed to our hostel. The bus trip back was like heaven for my feet (because I didn't have to walk anymore, and I think anyone who has feet can agree with me).

In the evening we had a dinner in a small restaurant called Fuori dal Ghetto. It was close to the hostel so it was the easiest choice at that point (we had been there before with the other groups; Galician, German, Catalan, Italian).

Wednesday 25.10.: Planning videos and visiting the Traiano's thermal baths

On Wednesday we went to school and finished the projects we had started in the beginning of the week. Each group prepared a video where we introduced and promoted our products then, too.

After school we went to the Traiano's thermal baths (Terme Taurine or Trajan). We had a tour there, which was really nice. The Italian students had prepared wonderful presentations for us. There were many lovely cats there.

After the visit we had an hour to do what we wanted in the city centre, and then we had a dinner in the old town. Some delicious pizza again!

Tuesday 24.10.: The first day of school and the Castle of Santa Severa

We went to school in the morning. The Italian teachers divided us into four groups and the Italian students were our group leaders. Then we started our business projects. We created our own business together and decided what and how we are going to sell. Occasionally it was rather challenging for us to understand the local accent and what our group leader wanted to say. We also noticed that working in an international group is very different than working together with other Finnish students. Despite the little language barrier we got started, and we are excited to see what will happen tomorrow.

After the school day we went by bus to the Saint Severa’s castle (Castello di Santa Severa). A great view from the bus!

Above you can see some pictures which we took at the castle. The castle was very interesting and the Italian students had prepared informative presentations related to its history.

In the evening we ate at the hotel’s restaurant.

Rauli had a pizza with french fries!

Some of us
had a lot of fun with those Italian breadsticks before the dinner :D
