Yesterday afternoon I had managed to 1. leave (lähteä) work early when something horrible happened. When I 2. reached (saavutin) the first traffic lights, a bird slammed into my windshield. The bird 3. didn't die from / didn't die of (ei kuollut) the impact, but it got its wing stuck under the windshield wiper. I think the whole thing 4. affected influenced (vaikutti) me in such a way that I now 5. suffer from (kärsin) ornithophobia, an irrational fear of birds.

Not really knowing how 6. to deal with / to handle (käsitellä) the situation, turning on the windshield wipers seemed like the only way to solve the problem.

I 7. arrived at (saavuin) the next set of traffic lights and the bird ended up in the wrong place again: on the windshield of the police car behind me.
8. Discussing / Talking about (Keskusteleminen) the situation with the police didn’t help. The police officer simply 9. replied to / answered (vastasi) me: “Sir, I am going to have to 10. charge you with (syyttää) a crime: cruelty to animals.”
