History

Mediaeval Town Life

I live with my family near Turku. In my family there are me, my little brother, mum and my dad. All of my family are doctors. I normally work in the farms or I just write some medical notes. Once I was eating breakfast with my family. I was washing the dishes and some people came in the door and started to knock. I opened the door and there were few people and they were crying. I asked what is wrong but they just said that we want to see my brother which is my little brother. My brother came and talked to the people and the people said "what is wrong?" The people were scared and said "our family members are dying?" My little brother and my dad went to the Turku to see the ill people. I went with them as well.

When we reached Turku, we all were surprised to see so many people dying, vometing and coughing. My dad knew this was BLACK DEATH and he told us. He checked one patient and got worried because he did not think that the black death is that bad. He told us that we need to announce this to everybody. I went to the central park and announced that the "black death has reached Turku. We need all the doctors in Turku as well all the doctors that live near Turku. My liitle brother and me where searching that what causes black death while my dad was checking some patients. While we were researching more doctors came to help. Me and my little brother still didn't know what causes black death. Soon many people became sick and we couldn't still find what is wrong. A doctor said that we need more doctors because many people were dying. Some barbers were acting like doctors. We taught some things to the barbers.

Some of the doctors got sick and many other people as well. We used to also stay at night. One night was cold so we burnt a bonfire. After few minutes we saw some rats, mosquitos, dogs, cats and other bugs coming near the fire. We took an rat and tried some experiments. Then we got to know that the animals are bringing the diseases. We checked the grains water and other eating items. We found that in many people's food there are some diseases. We got the answer of the problem but we didn't still know the solution. Few people died and two doctors died as well. We said to people that "be careful while drinking water or making food." We got vegetables from our farm where my mum works. Also some other farmers gave their vegetables to us. Then we got to know that smallpox and typhoid fever were comman. Now we knew the fever they had so we started to save people. One surgery took almost half of a day. Normal citizens like shoemakers, farmers or also started to do the surgery. It worked but still people used to get the diseases.

It got better than before. We told people to check their drinks or the food before eating. We found an quicker way of the operation. I used to go to other cities and ask the other doctors. In other cities black death was also. Many people got sick. I went there to ask what sort of remedies do they use. I got some ideas and I went back to Turku and tried those remedies. I told others and they tried it as well. Everything was going well. I went back to my home but my little brother and my dad still were there. After four days my dad came and said that the diseases are coming again. Me and my mum went with my little brother there. We saw very many people sick again. We researched and the food had again the diseases. I told the people in the village but they said "we check our food befor eating." One lady said to me that "since my son came from sailing with his other friends, these diseases have been coming again." Me and my mum went to check the ships. We found bugs in the food and everywhere else. For many months sailing was banned. We saved many people but sadly some people died. It got so much better. After many months the blsck death went and everything was normal. Everybody thanked us and I was happy that I could sav others lives. Thanks to me, my family, other doctors and other people.

My day as a slave

Morning
I normally wake up at five o clock in the morning but sometimes my master says I need to wake up early or I don´t get to sleep. Usually I sleep in they kitchen in the palace or in the stable with the horses but sometimes I go to my house that is made out of mud. The house has two small rooms and in that small house there lives me, my two little sisters, one big brother and my parents. All of them are slaves including me. Me and my sisters walk 5 km everyday to get water. My mum gets food from the market and my brother and my dad also work. My work in the morning are to clean the whole palace in two hours then make food for all the royal family in a minuscale time. I also clean the stables and the horses that stinks and get dresses for the whole royal family. I have to do this in five hours and this is very tiring to me and it is horrible.

Afternoon
Then I make lunch for the royal family and there has to be everything that is in the list and I have a minuscale time to make the food. I then ask the queen or the king if I can eat also. If their mood is nice then I can eat and if their mood is bad then I eat in the night or I don't get to eat at all. Then the prince has to practice for the war so I go to a place where I make pots and get for the prince. I need to make thirty pots in one hour and then it also takes time to dry so I have to do it quickly. If the prince nneds more pots then I make more and at the same time the princess also has to learn how to make dresses or to do nice hairstyles for the competion. If I get late even by one minute then I get scold and I might get lashes from the queen or the king.

Evening/Night
I go and make the dinner for the royal family. I also go and clean the stables where horses lives. I do that again because the soldiers and the king came from a practice. The horses stinks but I need to clean them again. I give the royal family their night wear and if I have time then before going home I make the clothes for the royal family and they will wear them in morning. I go home and get some food for dinner and then I cook or my little sisters or my mum. Then my dad and my brother comes from the farm. Sometimes the queen or the king gives me some left over food that they had or give me some gold if I did impress them.

Childhood
Julius was not born by Caesarean Section. He was born in Subara, Rome. July 13, 100 B.C. Some people believes that he was born by Caesarean Section. He was born to an aristrocratic family but in Roman standard they were not rich. His full name was Gaius Julius Ceasar. When he was six he started his education. He was taught by a private tutor called Marcus Antonius Gnipho. He learned how to read and write as well as he learnt about Roman law and how to speak in front of public. These were important things to know when somebody would become a leader in Rome.

Early Adulthood
His father died when he was sixteen years old. Then he became the head of the family and was responsible for his mother and his sister. He married three times in his life. His first marraige was when he was seventeen. He married to Cornelia. In 75 BCE, 25-year-old Julius Caesar was sailing the Aegean Sea when he was kidnapped by Cilician pirates, when the pirates asked for a ransom of 20 talents of silver (approximately 620 kg of silver, or 600,000 in today's silver values), Julius just laughed at them and some how he left from there.

Early Career
Before going to war he used to pray to Jupitar. Julius Caesar joined the army and left Rome to kill Sulla and his allies. When he returned Rome everybody was proud of him and then he joined in the Roman military and was a military hero. He made allies with powerful men such as general Pompey the great and the wealthy Crassus. Then Romans started to love him. While in Egypt he fell in love with the queen of Egypt, Cleopatra. He helped her to become pharaoh and had a child named Caesarion with her

Consuls and Generals
When Julius Caesar was 40 he was elected to consul. Consul was the highest ranking position in Roman republic at that time. The consul was sort of a presedint. But there were two consuls and they only served for one year. Julius became the admistrator of the region Gaul. As the admistrator of Gaul, Caesar was in charge of four Roman legions. He conquered all of
Gaul. He was a very effective admistrator and a general. He gained the respect and honor from his army.

Civil War
Politics in Rome became increasingly hostile while Caesar was in Gaul. Many of the leaders were jealous of Caesar and his following. Even the general Pompey became jealous and soon Caesar and Pompey became opponent. Caesar had the support of the people and Pompey had the support of the noblemen. Caesar announced that he was going to return to Rome and run for consul again. The Roman Senate replied that he must give up the command of his army first. He said no and strated to march with his army towards Rome. Caesar took control of Rome in 49 BC and spent the next 18 months fighting Pompey. He finally defeated Pompey, chasing him all the way to Egypt.

Dictator of Rome
In 46 BC Caesar returned to Rome. He was now the most powerful man in the world. The Senate made him dictator for life and he ruled like a king. He made many changes to Rome. He put his own supporters in the Senate to make it more powerful.
He built new buildings and temples in the city of Rome. He even changed the calendar to the now famous Julian calendar with 365 days and a leap year.

Murder
Some people in Rome felt that Caesar was too powerful. They were worried that his rule would put an end to the Roman Republic. They planned to kill him.  On March 15, 44 BC Caesar entered the Senate. A number of men ran up to him and began to attack him and killed him. He was stabbed many times.

Farmers and Foods

Food
People in Ancient Egypt ate garlic, green vegetables, dates, onion, fish, birds, eggs, cheese, butter, lentil, figs, cucumbers, bread. The bread was sweetened with dates, figs and honey. They also had yeast bread. They were not allowed to eat pork in their religion but they were allowed to eat meat. They had a dessert made with bread, cream and honey and that did look like a cake. They did put grain in a big pot which was called an emmer and they used a tool to knock the bread. Then they did put the grain and rolled it on a stone. Then they used a big pot and add water to make the dough. They baked the bread in a oven.

Beer was very common drink in ancient Egypt. Most of people did not want to drink water directly from the Nile. The ancient Egyptians had noticed that people became sick after drinking the water directly. So they started to drink beer which was made by barley. The beer did not have high alcohol, but it was very nutritional and was very important part of ancient Egyptians daily diet. It was safer than drinking water directly from Nile. The made a non-alcohol fruit drink from dates. They also liked to drink milk.
