10.5.2024 Assessment of the YRE Litter Less Campaign - School year 2023-2024
Oriveden Lukio has been selected as Finland's representative in the Young Reporters for the Environment Litter Less Campaign. This initiative, a collaboration between UNESCO ASPnet and FEE, aims to empower young people to take an active role in combating littering and promoting environmental protection.
The Young Reporters for the Environment Litter Less Campaign seeks to raise awareness about the state of our environment and encourage people to adopt more responsible practices. Oriveden Lukio has integrated its campaign work into the school's and Oriveden Yhteiskoulu's international network collaboration. Throughout the campaign, young people have acted as environmental journalists, producing articles, photographs, and videos that explore the issue of littering and its solutions.
A Focus on Marine Literacy and Baltic Sea Protection
Oriveden Lukio's campaign efforts have particularly focused on marine literacy, Baltic Sea protection, and tackling Baltic Sea littering. Students have delved into the Baltic Sea's ecological challenges and the impact of littering on its ecosystem. In Erasmus+ workshops with visiting student groups, students have collaborated with their Erasmus+ peers to explore how marine literacy can equip us to understand and address the problems facing the Baltic Sea – as well as all the world's oceans.
Global Collaboration for a Wider Impact
Oriveden Lukio has collaborated with other UNESCO ASPnet schools throughout the campaign. The campaign's themes have been discussed with representatives of UNESCO Baltic Sea Project schools in the Baltic Sea region. Campaign themes are also integrated into the eTwinning collaboration of schools in the UNESCO ASPnet Shared Sea Network and are part of the program for the network's Hailuoto Sustainable Development Camp.
Students have had the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas with each other and learn more about important environmental work. International collaboration makes it possible to achieve a wider impact and promote environmental protection globally.
Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future
Oriveden Lukio firmly believes in the power of young people to change the world. The school is committed to providing young people with many different opportunities to practice and implement environmental work. The Litter Less campaign offers young people a valuable learning experience that helps them develop their environmental awareness, critical thinking, and creativity. The school believes that this campaign work, in its own way, helps young people to take an active role in fighting for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
