The Scream - Edvard Munch
"The Scream" is a famous painting by the well known and mentally challenged Norwegian painter, Edvard Munch. It was painted by Edvard Munch in 1893 with oil, pastel, and crayon on a cardboard canvas, using a style that presents the world from a subjective perspective. Currently, the painting is kept in the National Gallery located in Oslo, Norway.
I chose this painting because I like the color contrast and the expression the screaming man makes in the picture. Also, The Scream is arguably the most significant piece of art from northern Europe.
The painting is cropped so the viewer can see the screaming man in the middle, the red sky and the couple in the distance. You can also see some kind of lake in the background.
I don't think the painting has a message due to being painted by a madman, but I think the painting symbolizes anxiety with its red sky and the screaming man in the middle of the road.
