Summary

How many times a day do you eat ?

French students use to eat 3 or 4 times a day (including breakfast, lunch at school, an afternoon
snack and the diner at home). The parents encourage their children to have a balanced nutrition
during the whole day to have energy enough to face all their activities (here, in our middle school,
some pupils have very long days (from 8 : 00 am to 6 : 00 pm !) We have also a lot of
advertisements on TV who preconize « manger – bouger » (eat and moove) to prevent people from
obesity.

What time do you eat ?

In the morning, we usually have breakfast at seven, during the week, we have lunch at school at the
canteen (from half past eleven am to twelve). At noon, French students use to have snacks during
the break around four. For the dinner they usually have it from seven to half past eight.

What are your most usual foods at home ?

France, thanks to his geographical condition is under the influence of different countries according
food consumption :
Students eat pasta and pizzas, couscous. They tend to eat more meat than fish witch is surprising as
we live next to the sea, only one of them consumes oysters (a typical seafood here, in Agde).
For desert, we usually have cheese, yogurts and fruits.
In France, for lunch we usually eat pasta with chicken.
A little part of the students think that eating vegetables is very important. A great part of them eat
fries whereas if it’s not healthy at all...

What is your favourite food ?

Just like in a lot of countries, students like pasta, chicken, hamburgers, anyway they seem to eat in a
balanced way : they consume starchy food, vegetables, dairy products and fruits frequently.
We try to encourage them to drink regularly during the day.

How many hours a week do you exercise and what are your favourite sports ?

Students play different sports : some of them play football or handball, pupils play tennis or table
tennis, some of them practice horse riding.

What time do you go to bed and how many hours do you sleep at night ?

The majority of the students (about 47, 2%) go to bed at 10 pm or later, wich is not so far from 44,4
% go to bed at 9 : 00pm. Only 8,1% go to bed at 8 :00 or earlier. We can see that most of the
students go to bed late at night, only few of them go to bed early.
Some French students only sleep 5 hours a day or less. About 11 % sleep from 6 to 7 hours at night.
The majority of the students sleep around eight or nine hours (69%). 17% of them tend to sleep
more than ten hours. Some students don’t sleep a lot because they have to do their homework or
they play sport. Most of them watch the TV late at night or use their mobile phone. In France school
begins early in the morning so certain pupils don’t sleep enough.

When do you wake up ?

The great majority of us get up at seven o’clock (during the week as the school begins at eight) and
25 % use to wake up earlier : at six o’clock. It depends on the place students live, if they live far
from school or not.

How many hours do you use your mobile phone per day ?

53 % of us use our mobile phone around 2 hours a day, 25 % use it from three to five hours a day,
and, finally, about 22 % stay on their mobile phone 6 hours or more !

How do you feel at the moment ?

The vast majority of youngsters seem to feel good at the moment, some of them tell they are very
happy, by only one of them tells that he’s tired at the moment

In conclusion :
French students realise that having a balanced diet is quite important for health and to feel goog.
Unfortunately, they spend to much time using their mobile phones and we can easily wonder how
they can stay so long time using their phones when they go to school, during the week. We can
suppose that this behaviour doesn’t allow them developping social skills with « real » people and
don’t leave them time enough for other hobbies like sports for instance…
