Good morning!

Maanantaina kirjoitetaan kurssin essee oppitunneilla. Varaathan siis tietokoneen matkaan!

  1. Several groups haven't yet finished their Finland presentation, so make sure that by the end of the lesson you have returned your group's presentation into Peda.net.
  2. When you have finished with your own presentation, go and look at other presentations and leave a comment on at least three other presentations. Write in English. 
  3. Make sure you have completed the following exercises from the grammar section 16, 17, 18. Artikkeleiden osalta tee loppuun tehtävät 16, 17, 18. Digikirjassa etsi osio kielioppi ja sieltä artikkelit. Tehtävät etenevät numerojärjestyksessä.

Today's topic is Finland. Let's start with a video:

Watch the video and answer the following questions in Finnish. Write your answers into your notes. 
  1. Mitä kerrotaan Suomen ja Ruotsin rajalla olevasta golf kentästä?
  2. Millaisia nähtävyyksiä videolla mainitaan?
  3. Mitä suomalaisesta ruuasta kerrotaan?
  4. Miten suomalaisten englannin kielen taitoa kuvaillaan?
  5. Missä maassa on eniten metalli bändejä? Kuinka paljon niitä on?
  6. Mitä Suomen suhteista muihin maihin kerrotaan videon loppupuolella?


Next, work in pairs or small teams and complete the following activities together. Mark your group's answers into your e-books:
  1. Text 6 exercises: engage, 6a, 6b, 6e, 6d, 6f
  2. Finally, in your group prepare a small presentation on Finland. Choose on of these topics: Finnish nature/Finnish people/Sauna/Finnish music/Successful Finnish artists. The presentation must have both pictures and text. Return your presentation into the "palautuskansio" above. Tehkää siis yhdestä aiheesta Power Point esitelmä, jonka palautatte ryhmäpalautuskansioon. Kun kansiossa on kaikkien esitelmät, käykää tutustumassa muiden tekemiin esitelmiin ja kommentoikaa kolmea esitelmää. Voitte esim. kertoa mitä kiinnostavaa/hyvää/uutta esitelmässä oli. Omassa esitelmässä on hyvä olla useampi dia aiheeseen liittyen sekä tekstiä, kuvaa ja vaikkapa joku videokin. Liittäkää esitelmän alkuun myös kaikkien ryhmänjäsenten nimet.

Good morning!

1. Start with the exercise 4F in the ebook. You will need to work with a pair.

2. Discuss the following fashion-related questions in small groups.


    • Do you think popular culture influences your fashion choices? Do you follow celebrities or influencers for their style? Do you try to replicate those styles?
    • Do you feel pressure to look trendy? Are all styles equal or are some styles more acceptable than others? What sort of things and styles are trendy right now?
    • Do you think that society sets standards for people on how they should look? Does society expect different people to dress in different ways? Can for example the President dress in the same way as average Joe/Jane?
    • What do you think about dress codes? Can dress codes, like wearing school uniforms, have any benefits? Where do we have dress codes?
    • It is often said that our modern-day society is too focused on looks. Do you think that is true? What kinds of problems can this cause to people?
    • How can you make sustainable fashion choices? How do you feel about fast fashion?

3. Move onto text 5 and start by listening to the text (if you haven't done this previously). 


4. Complete the following activities:

  • Sonya luki ennen / lukee nykyään paljon erilaisia muotiblogeja ja -lehtiä.
  • Erilaiset tyylit inspiroivat Sonyaa, ja jotkut ihmiset sivustolla näyttävät niin mahtavilta, että Sonya tuntee houkutusta kokeilla tyyliä / ostaa vaatteita, joita hän ei sitten käytäkään.
  • Tyyli on hyvin subjektiivista ja sama tyyli ei miellytä kaikkia. Sonyaa kiinnostaa muoti ja itseilmaisu. Joskus tämä on hankalaa isommalle ihmiselle, se saattaa vaatia enemmän rahaa ja ahkeruutta netissä shoppaillessa / kykyä löytää hyviä ostoksia kirpputorilta.
  • Joskus vaihtoehtoja ei ole ja tyylitaju voi tukahtua / hävitä.
  • Sonyan mielestä sivuston suomalaiset / australialaiset miehet ilmaiset itseään rohkeasti vaatevalinnoillaan.
  • Jotkut asuista voisivat aiheuttaa jopa innostuneita / vihamielisiä reaktioita.
  • Sonya ihailee rohkeita tyylejä, mutta on itsekin joskus ihmetellyt / paheksunut joitain sivuston tyylejä.
  • Sonya pitää myös siitä, että sivustolla ihmiset kertovat tyylistään, koska tarinoiden avulla kuville syntyy konteksti ja ilman sitä Sonya ei halua imuroida tyylejä itselleen / ei jaksa kiinnostua kuvista.
  • Näistä Hel looks -sivusto on Sonyan uusi / pitkäaikainen suosikki.
  • Sivustolla oleva katutyyli on erilaista, vaikka monet suosivat käytettyjä / trendikkäitä vaatteita.Sonya luki ennen / lukee nykyään paljon erilaisia muotiblogeja ja -lehtiä.

William Shakespeare is perhaps one of the most famous playwrights and poets in the English-speaking world. With the help of the following video, you will hopefully learn something new about Shakespeare and his influence on language, movies and TV-series. Also, answer the questions based on the video.

  1. Name the museums you visited.
  2. Name two works of art that you thought were interesting. First describe them and then explain shortly why you enjoyed them. Page 58 in the book might help you with vocabulary. 
  3. What kind of things you can see and experience in the museums? Describe the types of art, for example are there paintings, sculptures? What era/period of time do most of the works present? Does the museum showcase modern art or more historical masterpieces?
  4. Would you like to visit the museums in real life? Why? Why not?
  5. What kind of art do you find interesting? Portraits? Still lives? Abstract art? Watercoulours? Landscapes? Why?
  6. Do you think there is any difference to visiting an art museum physically or virtually? Please, give some reasons for your opinion.
