Kirjallisessa tyylissä käytetään joskus tehokeinona lausetta, jossa on käytetty käännettyä sanajärjestystä ja jätetty lauseen alusta pois konjunktio if. Tämä onnistuu vain, jos ehtolauseessa esiintyy verbimuoto had, should tai were.
