Pirtti school in English

Pirtti School is a Finnish primary school for grades 1–6 (ages 7 to 13 years). The school has about 730 pupils (2023-2024) and it currently employs approximately 60 teachers and assistants. Pirtti school aims at creating a positive atmosphere for learning where pupils are active members of their school community. The school also fosters action-based learning, good friendship and teamwork skills, as well as respects pupils’ individual differences in learning. Shared leadership and collaborative team teaching are also essential parts of school culture. 

Pirtti school was inaugurated in 1998 and originally it was designed for about 420 pupils. As the number of pupils has increased more space have been acquired from four temporary school buildings which are all closely situated with the main building.

The construction of Pirtti school was carried out as part of the European Union THERMIE –programme (1994-1998). The aim of the programme was to promote newclean and efficient technologies in the field of rational use of energy

Pirtti school has a special stream for studying visual artsFrom grade three onwards pupils have the possibility of getting one 
additional lesson a week for developing their artistic skills. The aim of the art programme is to encourage pupils to try, learn and develop different techniques of artistic expression, as well as to help them grow their identity and cultural knowledge. Pupils from all over Kuopio may apply for the programme and they will be admitted based on the results in the aptitude test.
