Las meninas

Las meninas done by Spanish painter Diego Velázquez is displayed at the Pardo museum in Madrid. The painting is from year 1656 and it represents the painting style of baroque. The baroque style occurs from the detailed work and bombastic appearing. With that I mean the large size of the room and decorative dresses.

What makes this painting interesting is that it has been analyzed a lot. The painting is full of symbolic meanings and carefully thought compositions. For example in the middle of the painting the princess Margaret's position is emphasized with the shady room, two dwarfs and paintings. Also some of the people are looking at her.
The paintings on the walls are there to recall that the people in the room are present.
The mirror on the backwall reflects a image of the royal couple. The painting could be from their view or the view next to them. Some of the people's look is directed to the royal couple what tells them being important and respected.

There are a lot of interesting details in the painting. First when I looked at the painting, I was confused why the child's foot is on the dog's back. I think you were well told where to find that the painting was painted in baroque style. I also attached attention to the era because people's clothing and haisrtyles look like of the baroque era. I haven't seen this artwork before but it seems really interesting and I'm not surprised that it has been analyzed much. The name of the painting means girls and it directs the viewer's gaze to the front in the painting because the girls in the painting are front of.

Some time has been spent on this at least a couple of years but I may get nightmares from the woman in the right :'D. Baroque isn't my favorite era of art because the drawings have several details, bland colours and some EXTREMELY scary, doll-like faces. I personally don't like the painting, even though IT IS an excellent artwork and every painting is spontaneous like this one.
