Mountains of the Moon - Bayou

Bayou

A shot to the veins
Taste the rush
I was lost on an escape to love
Untraceable

It's not the same
Not enough
You and me was like a vivid dream
Why'd you wake me up?
Why'd you wake me up?

You were my coming down
And my solid ground
Paramount
You were my coming down
And my solid ground
Paramount
Paramount

Distant screams
The biggest lie
What are we if never intertwined
Forever undefined

Take my hand
Now or not at all
Sow a seed, grow a plant
Watch it spire tall
Ever higher
My love

You were my coming down
And my solid ground
Paramount
You were my coming down
And my solid ground
Paramount
Paramount
Paramount
Paramount

Nights are longer now
And I am, I am stronger
Without you
Without you
I have come around
Life is ocean, we were just travellers in the bayou
In the bayou
That we outgrew

In the bayou
In the bayou

This is Mountains of the Moons version from the song Bayou. It tells about breaking up with someone and how to accept it. I think this song is wanted to tell as a surviving story: how to deal with breakup and which different stages and emotions that process can include

I have chosen this song because the lyrics are so interesting. First, after hearing this song few times I have learned to like the way it sounds. There is a lot of instrumental music in this song but for me it seems that the words have more value due to little amount of them.

Also, there are words I haven’t known before and as usual they get my attention instantly. I want to figure them out to understand what the song has to say and in this situation end up realizing they are not ment to be interpreted straightly but as a methapor: “Life is ocean – we were just travellers in the bayou.”

After hearing this song and reading its lyrics, I wondered how the songwriter had been able to make such a sensitive song about a difficult and big thing. I would also interpret this song as telling about breaking up with someone and accepting it. As you have noticed, I don't think that the words should be taken literally, but as metaphors. I therefore agree with your interpretation. Especially the part "You and me was like a vivid dream. Why'd you wake me up?" tells a very metaphorical for resignation. I was a little surprised when the song lasted 7 minutes but there weren't many words. On the other hands, it didn't bother, as the message came out and the song was shooting and beautiful.
