Lesson 1 April 15th 2021

Greetings from your English teacher!
Let's meet in zoom:
https://zoom.us/j/99307834348?pwd=cUJjb0dVUWxabnlvMnJQVVFQTEI3dz09
Meeting ID: 993 0783 4348
Passcode: 328640
We will work on this mixed environment of Pedanet and Zoom today and tomorrow. Hopefully next Tuesday we'll see in class: A311.
It's time to start a new course. Let's talk a little about the course, the contents, the evaluation etc.
EN course 7.pptx
Now it is time to get to work.
First let me hear you... Go and comment on the padlet: https://padlet.com/mia_riikka_heinonen1/md989f9i5e8a7le7
Course 7 concentrates on topics larger that life: nature and environment plus human being's role in it.
1. First let's watch a video together.
and summarize it to me in a few lines and ideas that spring up. Write the ideas on the Returns file / Palautuskansio 1. Minimum of 50 words.
2. We'll proceed by doing pages 6-7.
3. Do the grammar ex /final focus 2 WASTE NOT; WANT NOT.
You can always reach me in wilma or via phone (0401809783).
We will check the given exercises tomorrow. Talk to you then!
EN 7 -the very last lesson-
Well, at least almost. There are a couple of things we still have to do together:
1. Today's lesson which involves practising for the test
2. Friday 22nd at 12.30- 17.00 you'll have a chance to do one extra listening practise test ( I'll take two best grades out of three into consideration when giving you the grade). You'll find that in SanomaPro. It's voluntary but definitely good for you. That covers for the preppaustunti.
3. Test on Monday 25th.
4. Chance to consult me on the test and results on Friday 29th.
Now, back to today's topic.
Let's continue:
1. To rewise the vocabulary: go to wordwall.
https://wordwall.net/play/2027/263/870
2. To rewise grammar, do 2.4. on p. 172-173. Return the answers to my wa.
3. To rewise reading comprehension, do 1.2e on p. 156-157. Going bananas. Answers again to my wa.
We have completed what I had planned for us to do. If you have done your work with care and concentration, you have learned and rehearsed a lot. Those who fetched (from school) the extra practise material I told you about before the course actually started, have an excellent pile of exercises there. All of you have limitless material on the net: SanomaPro, Quizlet, Abitreenit, Etälukio, Markku Perälä, etc... Remeber to read and watch and listen and write in English. And don't start too late... nor too early. You all have deserved a holiday too!
Down below you'll find the answers to your homework (topic 12).

Today we will embark on a journey to improve your skills of wriring. To get you ready for Friday, let's start today with a bit of theory. Open the page 183 in book your books and study the basics. It is also wise to study this carefully:

EN 7 Lesson May 5th

It is time to take a look at indirect speech.
You can study the basics in the book on pages 204-206. Do exercises G 7,8 and 9.
If you need help with the theory, watch the video below:
After that take a little test in SanomaPro. It focuses on grammar but contains vocabulary also. The title says indirect speech, but it is actually a final exam exercise. The test will close at midnight so don't be late.
And as for the correct answers on the video exercise, here they are:
- Fahrenheit lämpötilayksikkö on tärkeä mittaväline ilmaston lämpötilojen datan keräämiselle.
- Nykyään Pohjois-Amerikassa asuu noin puoli miljoonaa biisonia, mikä on huomattava toipuminen 1800-luvun lopulta. Mutta verrattuna 20–30 miljoonaan, joka vaelsi tasankoja ennen 1600-lukua , biisonien perustaso maalaa yhtäkkiä hyvin erilaisen kuvan. Kaikki on siis suhteellista. /Siinä puhutaan siitä miten normiuden käsite muuttuu... eli 1800-lukuun verrattuna NYT on runsas biisonikanta, kun niitä on kymmeniä tuhansia, mutta oikeasti jos verrataan aikaan ennen eurooppalaisten saapumista, nykyinen kanta on pieni. Samalla tavalla monien muidenkin asioiden perspektiivi vääristyy.
I almost started to give you more work here, but... got some feedback telling me there's too much to do... So, after finishing G 7,8,9 and the test, go enjoy the sun!!!

EN 7 lesson April 29th

EN 7 ; Starting up
Welcome to course EN 7!
EN 7 concentrates on nature conservation and human being's role in the universe. It also focuses on getting your English skills as good as possible.
The course is divided into three main working ideas to make it more clear and easy to access working somewhat independently.
1. Every Tuesday we will start with a zoom-meeting ( ID: 811 670 412) and focus on the grammar of the course.
2. Every Wednesday we will work on the texts of the book. Occasionally, if you want, we van work with zoom here also, but that is voluntary.
3. And every Friday we will prepare for the matriculation examination.
I need to confirm your presence, so on Tuesday's you can enroll by joining the zoom
( ID: 811 670 412), on Wed and Fri, send me a message in wilma that you are present. It is enough if the message is sent within the day, not at any precise moment.
We will be using On Track 7 and the texts that we will focus on are topics 1,2,5,8,10 and 12.
The grammar we will look into are if-clauses, relative pronouns, modal auxiliaries, passive voice, articles, word order, harmony of tenses and maybe take a quick look at shortened sentences.
Unit 4 in your book concentrates on working for the big test, your final test. We will be working with that part on Fridays plus I will bring along more material.
It is a lot of work, but this distance learning let’s you work more independently and plan your own daily schedule. I will be there to help you, but according to our timetable. So I will be online with you Tue 10.30-11.45, Wed 10.30-11.45 and Fri 12.30-13.45.
And while we now work so much with the computer, it also allows us to use several different sources of learning and information. I see that as a big plus!
As learning a language is –and must be- an interactive experience, I would like all of you to find a partner in the group. Thus when we have a spoken excercise, you can take a video call with your partner and practise together. You will find the list of people in the course on the pedanet page. Ask me to help you find a partner and contact them.
On the right hand side you can find a mini grammar to help you.
