1. Where are Theo and his mother and what are they doing there?	They are at an art museum (the Metropolitan Museum) exploring works of art.
2. Why does the mother compare the surgeons on the painting to a cocktail party?	They mill around the slab and the corpse like a buffet at a cocktail party.
3. What does the mother think the two men in the back are thinking?	She thinks that they are wondering what the spectators, Theo and his mother, are doing there.
4. According to the mother, why has the painter used light the way he has?	The painter wants to draw the spectators' attention to the painting.
5. What is out of order with the flayed hand?	The skin is off, it's out of proportion to the rest of the body and the thumb is on the wrong side.
6. What makes it difficult for Theo to see the painting?	There are so many Asian tourists in front of the painting.
7. Why doesn’t Theo mind not seeing the painting well enough?	He is more interested in a girl he had seen.
8. What does the girl look like?	She has red hair, brown eyes, a sharp face; she is thin and plain-looking.
9. What makes Theo decide the girl is not a city kid?	Her clothes are too bland and suburban for a city kid.
