Muotia ja ompelua Lontoossa / Fashion and sewing in London

Lontoo keväällä 2019 / London in the spring 2019
Vastaanottavana tahona toimi Sew Over It London. Lontoo osoittautui ompelun opettajan unelmakohteeksi. Matkatuliaisina tuli paljon uusia ideoita, kaavoja ja kankaita kursseille ja omaan tekemiseen.
Matkalla olivat kädentaitojen päätoiminen tuntiopettaja Johanna Kivistö ja kädentaitojen tuntiopettaja Sanna Järvinen.
Vakka-opisto received Erasmus+ -funding for study visits in handicrafts. In spring 2019, a teachers´ trip to London focused on fashion and sewing. There are several sewing studios and fabric stores in London that sell their own and other manufacturers´ patterns. The places to visit were found through social media. These studios are active among others on Instagram and they have thousands of followers. The visit was hosted by Sew Over It London. In addition, the goal was to enter the Christian Dior exhibition and we succeeded after a long queue. London turned out to be a dream destination for a sewing teacher. We brought many new ideas, patterns, and fabrics as a homecoming gift for the courses and for our own making.
On the way were Johanna Kivistö, a full-time handicraft teacher and Sanna Järvinen, a handicraft teacher.

Christian Dior Designer of Dreams
Christian Dior Designer of Dreams -näyttely Victoria & Albert -museossa.

After the family lost their property in the 1929 financial crisis, Dior began to look for new ways to make a living. He started to design fashion and worked with top designers. In 1946 he established his own fashion house and launched the first collection the following year. The fashion house was growing rapidly and by 1955, more than half of France's top fashion exports were Dior. He died unexpectedly at the top of her career in 1957, but the fashion house has succeeded in continuing his work with well-known creative leaders. Their work was also on display at the exhibition.
