Ahmo school is a UNESCO school
UNESCO (the United Nations’ Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) is a special agency of the United Nations (UN). According to the UN charter, the purpose of UNESCO is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science and culture. It aims to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law and human rights. Attaining quality education for all and lifelong learning are also its priorities.
To put these principles into practice, UNESCO founded the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) in 1953. It’s a global network of more than 9000 educational institutions in 180 countries. Member institutions, ranging from pre-schools, primary, secondary and vocational schools to teacher training institutions, work in support of international understanding, peace, intercultural dialogue, sustainable development and quality education. Ahmo School became a member of ASPnet in 2012.
Ahmo school has a Unesco group, formed by some thirty voluntary pupils from different grades. The group organizes theme days, gives presentations and assemblies. It also co-ordinates fund raising for Ahmo school’s partner school in Kidugala Tansania.
