The stamp depicts an important observation made by Charles Darwin, the founder of the evolution theory. He realised that certain small birds had "accidentally" migrated to Galápagos Islands. Gradually the bird population on the islands began to differentiate. There developed birds with a narrow, sharp beak and birds with a parrot-like wide beak.
