One of the students describes this optional course in the following way:

“The idea of this optional course is to learn about different cultures in other countries. The course improves language and IT skills, too. We keep in touch with a couple of schools around Europe, for example by writing letters and doing different kinds of online projects. We also try to take into account the various periods and festivals of the year (e.g. The European Day of Languages, Easter, Christmas, Valentine’s Day).

Our school has had private contacts with Norway, Sweden, Germany, Italy and Spain. Last year (2017) we were in Vigevano, Italy. We had to collect money for that exchange, for instance we sold pastries and washed cars. Our Italian friends were here in Laitila last winter (2018). We don't usually travel to all of the countries we have been in contact with.”
