Approximately 300 students and about forty teachers and other professionals work in the comfortable and modern premises of Kuusankoski High School. The diligent work of the student body is evident in numerous activities and event organizations that bring joy to everyday life. The determined and humble efforts in studying have also delighted many students with positive results.
Kuusankoski High School is a UNESCO school. Being a part of it involves active regional work and participation in the national UNESCO school network under the guidance of the National Board of Education. In a UNESCO school, the values of the United Nations are respected, and actions are taken in accordance with the UN's Agenda 2030 for sustainable development goals in various subjects and collaborative networks. We have been awarded the Erasmus+ quality label for international study trips.
Kuusankoski High School is actively engaged in the present day. In Kouvola's high schools, entrepreneurship and work-life skills, as well as digital skills, are local subjects. In addition, logistics is taught at Kuusankoski High School. Transport companies operating in road, sea, and rail, as well as storage, customs, and forwarding companies in Kouvola, want to collaborate with Kuusankoski high school students. The Karelia Brigade and FedEx/TNT Finland from Vantaa are also our partners. The involvement of South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences in our logistics focus ensures that our students receive the latest insights from logistics higher education studies in Kymenlaakso.
Kuusankoski High School continues the traditions of Kuusankoski Community School, Kuusaa High School, and Voikkaa High School. The first high school graduates in Kuusankoski were capped in 1946. Over seventy years, thousands of young people have been educated for life in Kuusankoski high schools. Notable alumni include actor Pirkka-Pekka Petelius, footballer Sami Hyypiä, filmmakers Aki and Mika Kaurismäki, musician Harri Marstio, and drummer Risto Niinikoski. The previous commander of the Finnish Defense Forces, Jarmo Lindberg, is also an alumni of Kuusaa High School.
