Puistokadun päiväkoti School primary school
Puistokadun päiväkoti School is a Finnish primary school for grades 1–6 (aged 7 to 13 years). The nursery and daycare is located in the same building. The daycare provides a safe and encouraging daycare environment and it is a good start for friendships and learning together. Preschool pupils work together with our first and second graders. Jälkkäri, supervised after-school activity, is arranged with a combination of recreation and rest.
The school was inaugurated in 1912 and currently employs a teaching staff of approximately 20 people during daytime and 14 teachers teach languages in the evenings. Our aim is to provide every student good basic education and a chance to be able to participate in all the school extra curriculum activities e.g. band groups, chess club. Teaching is based on a national curriculum for all schools in Finland. The construction was designed by architect Wiwi Lönn.
The school aims to offer a positive milieu for growth, consisting of respect for others, TOLERANCE and SYMPATHY honesty, good manners, responsibility for one’s own work, strong self-esteem, active interaction, TEAMWORK and ENCOURAGEMENT and the desire to learn PERSISTENCE. It also aims to provide pupils with a versatile basic education, comprising skills in interaction and the acquisition of knowledge, as well as the ability to work independently. In the academic year 2017-2018, the school has approximately 220 pupils.
