Friedensreich Hundertwasser

born: 15.12.1928 in Vienna
died: 19.12.2000

I close my eyes half like getting a picture,
and see the houses dark coloured instead of ugly light,
and green meadows on all of them instead of all concrete(stone).
I´m already pleased to become soil myself,
burried naked and without a coffin
under a tree on my AO TEA ROA.

(AO TEA ROA is the most widely known Maori name of New Zealand)

Hundertwasser painted pictures, created flags, stamps, coins and posters, and he was a very wellknown architect.

His houses are very exceptional because of the many light colours and the irregular manners of building. The designs use irregular forms and incorporate natural features of the landscape.
They got irregular floors, a roof covered with earth and grass, and large trees growing from inside the rooms.

He also claimed the "Window Right": A person in a rented appartment must be able to lean out of his window and scrape off the wall of the house within arm´s reach. And he must be allowed to take a long brush and paint everything outside within arm´s reach. So that it will be visible to everyone in the street that someone lives there, who is different from man, who lives next door.

In his architectural imagination Hundertwasser put diversity before monotony, and replaced a grid system with an organic approach that enabled unregulated irregulations.
