Mutala School is a Finnish comprehensive school, situated in Joensuu. The school was built in 1952 and it was renovated in 1996. There are about 130 students in our school and we teach children from 1st to 6th grades (7-12 years old).
Mutala School provides quality education for primary kids regardless of their background or level of support by positive reinforcement and international actions. Our motto is Enjoy and learn! (Innostu ja onnistu!)
Mutala School implements various programmes aimed to improve our pupils learning:
1. “Finnish Schools on the Move” –ideas that aims to establish a physically active culture in Finnish comprehensive schools (https://schoolsonthemove.fi)
2. KiVa. KiVa is an antibullying program that has been developed by the University of Turku, Finland, with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture. (https://www.kivaprogram.net/)
2. Entrepreneurship-program in which we support entrepreneurial attitude towards learning, pupils' active participantship and strenghten the perception of their know-how.
3. Positive Pedagogy. All classrooms have their own systems of positive reinforcement in which pupils have clear instructions for behaviour, they are guided in positive manner (https://en.nmi.fi)

We are an accreditated school. Besides being a local school for students living in Mutala-Siihtala area, Mutala School aims to extend its teaching and know-how towards more holistic international direction in the future. Our school already has a firm cooperation with the Erasmus programme, and we currently have exchange students working and studying with us. Our teachers are actively developing and participating in international projects and courses.
