Multicultural week

The program

Multicultural week was organized in Karhula highschool in May 2017. Here is our program.

- 4th of May started the photograph gallery of Aimal Hakimi "Safe country" on our school´s corridor.
- 8th of May the journalist and autor Silja Talvi hold an anti-racism workshop
- 8th of May some young asylum seekers took part in our physical education lesson
- 9th of May a debate was organized, where we discussed issues like multiculturalism and immigration
- 11th of May there were some asylum seekers from Laajakoski, who told about their home country´s difficult conditions and how they ended up to Finland and Kotka. Also staff from the Red Cross organisation told how the process of the permission to stay in Finland move on in Finland.
- 11th of May the local band Smooth Groove Orchestra had a concert in our auditorium together with the immigrant Rebar Jamal from Irak

A big thank goes also to the local Multicultural Centre Mylly, who helped us to organize this Multicultural week. Mylly arranges social and cultural events here in Kotka. Especially they want to help and support immigrants to find their way to everyday life in the Kotka-Hamina region in Finland.
