Breakfast Habits in Greece

Breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day, a great source of energy and nutritional benefits to start your day. Greek families have changed their breakfast habits the last decades:
instead of just a cup of coffee , now they try to have a full breakfast consisting of products of our country like yoghurt with honey and walnuts,  bread with feta cheese, traditional pies, and  fresh fruit and vegetables.

In ancient Greece breakfast consisted of bread dipped in wine  and it was eaten just after sunrise.
Dinner was considered the main meal of the day, an eating habit modern Greek people still have!

Of course we couldn't suggest something like this to our pupils but we could remind them the famous British saying: "In the morning we should eat like a king, at noon we should eat like a prince and in the evening like a pauper" which has now been proved totally correct by scientists.
A good breakfast should consist of a variety of food items so that we can take in al the nutritional benefits that we need.
Some ideas for breakfast: 1 cup of milk with cereals and fruit
1 egg, 1 -2 slices of bread , some cheese and fruit
1 cup of milk, 1 cup of cake and fruit
1 cup of milk, 1-2 slices of bread with butter and honey , fruit
yoghurt with cereals and fruit

During the Breakfast Day at school, it was a nice surprise for us  to see  that almost all the pupils' breakfast consisted of  healthy and nutritional food items like cereals , milk, fresh orange juice, yoghurt , honey, nuts, bread, cheese, fresh fruit or homemade cakes for a change.

In the attached file  we can find out together the breakfast habits of our  pupils as they were described in the questionnaire given to them in the beginning of November.
