Experiment: Rolling on a tilted surface

Equipment:
  • a ball
  • 2 wooden blocks
  • a timer
Instructions:
  1. Raise one end of your table with your blocks.
  2. Let a ball roll from the elevated end. Measure with a timer.
  3. Which variables increase or decrease the time taken?
  4. Form a model.

[[$$ a = \frac{F}{m} = \frac{mg \sin \alpha}{m} = g \sin \alpha = \frac{gh}{L} $$]]
[[$$ s = \frac{1}{2}at^2 \Leftrightarrow t = \sqrt{\frac{2s}{a}} $$]]
[[$$ t = \sqrt{\frac{2L}{a}} = \sqrt{\frac{2L^2}{gh}} = L \sqrt{\frac{2}{gh}} $$]]
