Ocean waves can cause the coastline to erode. The force of the sea/waves causes pieces of rock to break off changing the coastline over time.
6th graders went on a field trip to Zumaia. There the monitors of the Algorri Interpretation Centre helped our students to better know our coastline and understand this process.
On their route through the cliffs our students saw the Hermitage of San Telmo, located on the Itzurun beach, over a cliff shaped by the flysch. Water and wind erode that piece of land 1 cm per year so this Hermitage will fall into the sea in some years!
