5th graders' project 1.- 31.3. 2020 : Growing peas ancient Roman style

5th graders have been studying history and they have learned a lot about agriculture in the ancient Egypt, Greek and Rome. The idea of this project was to combine theory with practice by creating an ancient style watering system that really works. To measure that we used peas. Each group planted 10 peas which were then measured weekly to follow the growth.

Each group searched information about ancient watering systems. Information was found in school books, other books, on Internet and on video links:

Archimedes' screw
A Roman aqueduct
Roman water supply

The groups planned and tested their constructions. They were adviced to only use 'solid water' which meant snow. Snow was put on top of the 'mountain'. The melting snow then dripped down the pipes and into 'a lake'. It was then lifted up onto the aqueducts by 'Archimedes screw'.
