The Sustainable development joint project 

programme in Kauhava, January 21st – 27th, 2024 

 

Sunday 21.1.2024 

The Hungarian teachers and students arrive in Kauhava by train at 16.56. 

The host families pick up the students. 

 

Monday 22.1.2024 

8.15 the guests arrive in school. The host students will take the Hungarian guests to classroom A220, which will be used as ”the homeroom” and where the guests can leave their coats and bags. 

 

8.30 – 9.45 Welcoming party 

• music performances 
• introduction of Kauhava and Kauhavan lukio 
• headmaster’s speech 
• Hungarian guests introduce themselves 
• dance performance 
• humorous footage of Finland 

 

10.00-10.30 The hosts will take a school tour and introduce the school building to the guests. The headmaster walks with the Hungarian teachers. 

 

10.30-11.30 Homeroom A220 ice breaker activities. Snacks available. 

 

11.30-12.10 Lunch in the lunchroom. 

 

12.20-15.30 Participation in the lessons, the guests join their host’s lessons 

1. Swedish or Finnish
2. Biology or Art

 

The evening is spent with the hosts. 

 

 

Tuesday 23.1.2024 

8.10 -9.45 Hungarian students attend the multisport lessons (volleyball, for example) 

 

10.00-11.30 Sustainable development -related workshops, (discussions, a footage related to the project topic, etc.) information on Wednesday’s excursions to Pietarsaari 

 

11.30-12.10 Lunch in the lunchroom. 

 

12.20-15.30 The guests join their host’s lessons 

1. Swedish or Finnish
2. Math, psychology or civics

 

17.00-19.00  International night at school 

• Snacks and desserts are served 
• quizzes, music, dance etc. 
• Hosts will take the Hungarian guests home 

 

 

 

 

Wednesday 24.1.2024 

8.10 – 8.50 Lesson with the host 

9.00 Departure for Pietarsaari 

10.15 Visit to Ekorosk (the local waste management and recycling center). 

A guided tour on the Ekorosk site in English. (walking) 

11.30 Departure from Ekorosk to downtown Pietarsaari. 

11.45-14.30 Lunch: 1. sandwich, juice and fruit (from school) 

or 2. lunch in a restaurant (you pay for the lunch yourself) 

• shopping or just strolling in Pietarsaari 

14.30 The bus leaves for Alahärmä 

15.30-16.30 A stop at the PowerPark area and Roadhouse-shopping center (a very small center) 

→ Arrival in Kauhava  

 

Thursday 25.1.2024 

8.10 – 9.45 Hungarian students participate in the arts class 

10.00 –10.45 – 11.30 Hungarian students participate in one of the following classes 

English - biology – math – psychology 

12.20 – 13.05 Hungarian students participate in 

math – psychology 

13.05 – 13.55 Hungarian students participate in 

psychology – math 

14.00 – 14.45 Working on the Sustainable Development -theme in class A220 (homeroom) 

 

17.00 – 19.00 An evening in Ojutjärvi (lake Ojutjärvi) 

• walking in snowshoes 
• Finnish sauna (take your swimsuit with you) 
• ”avanto” swimming in the hole in the ice 
• sausage grilling, spending time together 

19.00 → home 

 

Friday 26.1.2024 

 

8.10 – 9.45 Six Hungarian students attend the music lesson while six students attend the art 

lesson. Change classes at 9 o’clock. 

10.00 – 11.30 Y-Kino: ”Kuolleet lehdet” / ”Dead leaves” A Finnish film by Aki Kaurismäki 

(subtitles in English) 

11.30 – 12.10 Lunch 

12.20 – 13.05 Volleyball match Finland-Hungary 

13.10 – 14.00 Conclusion of the week, answer the questionnaires. 

  

End of school day. The hosts will take care of the students during the last evening in Kauhava. 

 

18.00 – 20.00 The Hungarian teachers will be having a supper with the Finnish teachers. 

 

Saturday 27.1.2024 

12.05 The train leaves from Kauhava at 12.05. The hosts will take their guest(s) to the railway station and the Finnish teachers will take the Hungarian teachers to the train.
